the city

Yesterday we drove into Bozeman, for some last-minute supplies. Bozeman's the biggest city around these parts, population 27K-ish, and most importantly, they have a Target. Mapquest said the drive would take about 2 hours, but when the speed limit is 75 you sure get to places a lot quicker than you think.

We hit Target, Old Navy, the local Chatelaine Chocolates, and had lunch at the Community Co-Op. You may have heard Steve say, at some point over the last ten years, that I hate sandwiches: well, even I love the sandwiches here!

It was WARM yesterday, and we did like the locals and walked around without our coats and commented to everyone about the "heat wave." Steve said it wouldn't be warm where we're from, but I'm telling you 38 Montana degrees felt more like 60 Boston /Chicago degrees.

Driving home, Steve spotted "a huge bird" eating something on the side of the highway, which, of course, I totally missed. We backtracked and it was a golden eagle--sadly you can't tell from this picture how big it really was.

We got back to Gardiner in the late afternoon and started to load up the car for our move to Old Faithful. The local mule deer gang was out in full force, and Steve had a standoff with one guy who kept trying to come in our gate. Eventually they moved on to our neighbor's yard

As we walked to the K Bar for one last pizza we passed a lone deer, just sauntering down the middle of the road, maybe on his way to dinner too. I'm really going to miss those guys.

  1. Hi guys! So fun to read about your adventure! My Peace Corps roommate's brother (how's that for a connection) actually works at the Co-op in Bozeman, so if you head back there, ask for Brendan Johnson! I'll tell him to keep an eye out for you guys too! ~Moira
