While the rest of the country is experiencing a heat wave, we're experiencing something somewhat unusual here as well: spring.
March may seem like a normal time for spring for arrive, but last year's snow carried us right into June so this weather has everyone a little bit confused. We prepared for a harsh winter and got a mild one. Is this really the start of spring, or will winter finally make its appearance in May?
It's been in the high 40's and rainy for the past couple of days, but a friend and I braved the drizzle for a short hike across the street from where we live.
We hiked up Dome Mountain, the mountain that we look at out our front window.
Despite the gray skies, beautiful views of the valley (and where we live!) below.
And if there are berries, it must be spring right? Right?
Spring also means that bears are emerging from hibernation, and I made sure to carry bear spray this morning. Last week a huge (estimations of 500+ pounds) grizzly boar was seen on two consecutive days, near Tower. On Friday a grizzly was spotted by NPS staff near Midway Geyser Basin.
Only time will tell if the spring like weather--and the bears--stay...
